On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, the three sisters who own and operate Amira Lebsatte welcomed us at their studio in Schaarbeek for one final workshop in the Phoebus Project’s Tailoring series.

All the participants were very enthusiastic and got straight to work finishing the Phoebus Gown. Mr. Nabeel and Mrs. Chantal had worked together at the Atout Cuir Studio to make a beautiful bag and belt for the gown. Zainab used her embroidery skills to complete a v-neck pattern for the dress while Mr. Moussa and Mr. Ahmad used their great garment building skills to construct the main body and skirt of the dress.

Meanwhile, our hosts at Amira Lebsatte prepared a delicious traditional Moroccan meal and drinks. Afterwards, Kate Jackson gave a toast to close the first series of workshops and thanked all the participants for their commitment. For our refugee participants, the path to establishing themselves in Belgium is not over, but look forward to seeing more of their amazing work in the future. There are still some finishing touches left to make on the gown, but we will be sure to share photos as soon as it is completed.
