Six years after the Brussels terrorist attacks, which stormed the capital of the European Union and put its security and safety into question, the EU and Belgian security authorities are still facing challenges when it comes to the issue of violent extremism and radicalization. As part of its Analysis of Violent Extremism and Radicalisation (AVERA) department, on March 23, 2022 from 14 pm to 16 pm the Brussels International Center is organising a conference at the Belgian Federal Parliament, in collaboration with parliamentarians, Georges Dallemagne and Koen Metsu.
This event will have a victims-centered approach and will also assess the extent to which current criminal justice policies in Belgium are tackling the root causes of violent extremism and radicalisation. The event will have a parallel session on crimes committed by the Islamic State against the Yazidi community, including sexual and gender based violence.
